Master Health Economics, Policy and Law.
Since september 2003, the Department of Health Policy and management (iBMG) offers a Master of Science programme in Health Economics, Policy and Law. MSc HEPL is multidisciplinary and specially designed for students interested in understanding the complexities of health care systems from different perspectives. MSc HEPL offers students the opportunity to complement their curriculum with the specific skills derived from the interdisciplinary approach to health and health care. Successful students will be able to identify the policy and economics implications of legal rules and decisions, to advance arguments using both legal, economics and political reasoning, as well as to grasp the differences between national health care systems. These skills will represent an exceptional asset to find professional openings at international firms, consultancy groups, international organisations like the UNO, WTO, EU, or to pursue an academic career.
Health Economics
MSc HE is a monodisciplinary programme in Health Economics, organized together with the Rotterdam School of Economics (F.E.W). Its aim is to provide students with concepts and tools of economic analysis of health care, including the analysis of the peculiar functioning of health care markets and the economic evaluation of health care programmes and interventions. These skills will represent an exceptional asset to find professional openings at international firms, consultancy groups, international organisations like the WTO, EU, or to pursue an academic career in the specific field of health economics.
Why Health Economics?
The Master Programme aims to be a response to the current excess demand for health analysts with an economics background. The quantitative importance of the health care sector is steadily rising in most economies – reaching up to 10% of GDP in most OECD countries. The challenges presented by the ageing of societies with rising life expectancies, and by the rapid advancements in medical technology call for serious reconsideration of the principles on which most health care systems were once conceived. Deciding about an appropriate mix of public and private health services financed and delivered efficiently, equitably and at an affordable cost, requires a thorough understanding of the characteristics of health care markets and the role for government intervention.
Master Health Services Research
De Master Health Services Research is the Research Master within the department of Policy and Management of Health care.
This Master is offered in cooperation with the research school NIHES, Netherlands Institute for Health Sciences.
The programm directorate is by iBMG and the department of public health, Amsterdam Medical Centre).
The master is in English, and can be attended fulltime (in a one year programme) or parttime (in a two years programme).
Master Health Care.
The Master Health care is meant for management positions in health care. Health care professionals, managers and directors in health care need to be increasingly clientcentered, and provide health care that is both effective and efficient. This creates a demand for managers who are able to implement management principles and good logistics and possess the necessary operational skills.
