Dr. J.P. Steinmann

Dr. Johann Peter Steinmann is a Medical Doctor and holds a master degree in Community Health and Health Management. As a permanent employee of GTZ he is at present the Programme Director and Principal Advisor of the Indo-German Health Programme. Major areas of the programme comprise Health Sector Reform with special emphasis on Health Systems Development, Health Insurance, Public- Private Partnerships, Quality Management, Reproductive Health and Social Development. After having worked in various positions in the German Health System for 9 years he gained wide field experience in Public Health in 20 years abroad. He worked for six years in Tanzania as medical officer in a district hospital, later as Team Leader of a primary health care project and a plague control project. In Nepal he established over a period of 8 years the first German supported Health project which developed into a health sector support programme with Primary Health Care, Reproductive Health, Physical Assets Management and Community Based Drug Management as major components. Since 4 years he is working in India. Apart from Public health he has extensive experience in quality management, management of change processes, organizational development and human resource management.
