David Dror, PhD, DBA

David M. Dror is hon. Professor of health insurance at Erasmus University Rotterdam/MC, Inst. For Health Policy and Management (Netherlands) and invited professor of health economics at CERDI, Univ. d’Auvergne, Clermont-Ferrand (France). He serves as lead expert of the project “Strengthening micro health insurance units for the poor in India”, and of a similar project in South Africa.

Prof. Dror’s research focuses on micro health insurance since 1999; this focus started when Dror was serving as senior health specialist at the ILO Social Protection Sector. Prof. Dror has led the team that modeled and formulated a conceptual framework to sustain micro health insurance, notably through reinsurance. After that, David has been involved in establishing field evidence on the impact of micro health insurance. He has organized household surveys and has been involved in data analysis on this topic in Philippines, India and South Africa (analysis of the latter two is still ongoing).
David was born in Jerusalem (Israel), has been living in Geneva (Switzerland) for the last 24 years (when he worked in the ILO), is the father of three grown-up sons and the grandfather of five lovely grandchildren. He has traveled in more than 75 countries and worked in multicultural and plurilingual settings. David speaks five languages.
